Hillary Hating & Sexism
When people hate on Hillary I ask why.
The complaints are often curious:
- “She doesn’t care about people of color.” Yet she has fought for school desegregation as well as universal health care and other paths to social and economic empowerment that benefit people of color.
- “She lies.” Compared to most politicians, she hardly ever does.
- “Scandals follow her.” The accusations are almost entirely made up.
- “She attacked Latin America.” She did?
- “I don’t know why. I just don’t like her.”
Trump: It’s Only Words
Trump insults women and others but his actions are to the contrary. He hires women on an equal basis, like his daughter Ivanka and his campaign manager Kellyanne Conway. He’s more bark than bite.
That’s from one of my readers. Read the rest of this entry
Beautiful People = The Best People?
Men go for looks because they are trying to mate with the healthiest, most reproductively viable women. Right? Even though to most widely spread their genes, guys will mate with just about anyone.
Yet women don’t care about looks so much because, even though women are very picky, clear physical cues to the best genes aren’t all that important. A man’s resources are what matter.
So say evolutionary psychologists.
Hmmmm. Maybe not. Read the rest of this entry
So Nice We Let Others Hurt Us
By Veronica Rodriguez
Some people are so nice that they let others hurt them. I have been hurt. But I wasn’t nice.![abusing_the_word_rape-460x307[1]](https://broadblogs.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/abusing_the_word_rape-460x30711.jpg?w=300&h=200)
I thought of this as I read a piece called, “Betrayed by the Angel,” by Debra Anne Davis.
When Debra was little, a boy named “Hank C” kept jabbing his pencil into her arm as she sat in her third-grade classroom. It hurt, but she didn’t want to be mean. When she finally got up the nerve to tell her teacher, she was told, “You go back to your seat and tell me if he does it again.” She sat mum. Read the rest of this entry
Men’s Pleasure Is More Important?
Many young women are now engaging in sex acts with men that prioritize the man’s pleasure, with little or no expectation of reciprocity.
So says cultural theorist Jackson Katz.
Sounds about right.
These young women are focused on how they look and what they do — and how their guys feel about how they look and what they do. Read the rest of this entry
Hating On Sex Ed & Gay Wedding Cakes
Religious conservatives have fought gay weddings, trans bathrooms, civil rights, sex ed, contraception, a woman’s right to terminate a pregnancy, and even battered women’s shelters.
Some of this is recent. Some of this is in the past. Some feels like a bit of both.
But why?
“God” comes up a lot in arguments against all of these things.
But is the real motivation something else? Read the rest of this entry
If Sports Were Covered Like Women’s Beach Volleyball
In honor of the Summer Olympics, and because I’m out of town, I’m rerunning this: Interesting contrast between photos of men’s and women’s beach volleyball. For men you find tough, competitive guys:
And for women: Read the rest of this entry
Gender Inequality Emerged From Agriculture?
The world wasn’t always marked by sex inequality. Particularly in plant-based societies there is much of evidence of parity.
So what happened?
No one knows for sure since we have no clear record of the transition — which may have occurred in different ways in different places. But based on archaeological, historical, and anthropological evidence, we have a few theories. Read the rest of this entry
Men Can’t Resist Groping Sexy Ladies?
I have seen enough groping/skirt lifting on crowded buses/trains, outside night clubs, etc. of scantly clad women to say that, yes, when there is no security around and an aroused guy feels he can get away with it he will act… It’s just human nature.
That’s what D. Jalbert told me.
Yet groping is not about short skirts or low-cut blouses. Read the rest of this entry
