Women Gazing At Men

Gazing at men

Lately I’ve been asking why women don’t get so excited by naked men

Elizabeth Hall Magill @ Yo Mama has asked the same question. And she wonders how women can better appreciate the male form, without objectifying them. Here’s an excerpt from one of her posts (with permission).

So—where does that leave a woman’s gaze? Read the rest of this entry

When Gods Were Mothers

Gaia, mother earth goddess

Gaia, mother earth goddess

There was a time when motherhood was so sacred that deity was The Goddess.

Even after patriarchy arose, complete with gods defeating goddesses, motherhood remained so valued that male gods sometimes became mothers.

Do Women See Sexy Men As Sexy?

Picture10[1]

Sacha Baron Cohen

When women look at men who are sexily posed or who show skin, they don’t always seem sexy, as I’ve discussed before. Is there any hope?

First, the problem: Imagine watching the Bikini Open “in reverse” so that women are fully clothed while men wear revealing Speedos. What about nearly nude men dancing on platforms? Or a camera focused on a man’s butt as he walks by. All this may look sexy. But women may well see it all as “gay.” Read the rest of this entry

I Wish Women Saw Me As A Sex Object

Objectification side-by-side

In the video that this still illustrates, the girl comes across as sexy. The guy comes across as weird.

By Eric U

As a man I was once oblivious to my image, as if it didn’t matter. When viewing porn or having sex it was all about how the woman looked and whether I was giving her pleasure.

But then I started working out, in part, to be seen as sexy, to make women stop and stare and talk to me.

I did attain the sexy, fit look, with abs and muscles. But women never came “hootin and hollerin.”

So I started searching for what turns women on. Everything said they liked “broad shoulders, forearms, back muscles.” Yet it wasn’t working.

So I googled what type of porn women watch and found things like this: “Straight but masterbate to the thought of lesbian!” Read the rest of this entry

Cinderella: More Feminist Than You Think

Cinderella-2

Disney’s Cinderella

Disney’s new Cinderella is constantly labeled “unfeminist.”

I’m not so sure.

I haven’t seen the film, but based on reviews, it doesn’t sound terribly unfeminist to me.

Like this:

There is a message in this film — one that may disappoint anyone looking for a new feminist heroine to emerge from the cinders. It’s about kindness and forgiveness and sticking to your values no matter what confronts you.

That’s not feminist? Read the rest of this entry

My Life in the Fat Lane

fatBy Carol Lynn Langdon

Nothing about me matters — except how I look.

I’m plus size.

I have big boobs and a tummy, thunder thighs and a humongous ass. Seats are almost always too small for my butt.

Still, I do yoga and sports. I like doing my hair and makeup and being flirty. Or doing dirty work or drinking disgusting beer. I also love kids. My friends would call me a sweetheart, a completely honest and wholesome friend.

But few try to get to know the real me.  Read the rest of this entry

Evolutionary Psych’s Double Standard

The double standard.

The double standard.

Evolutionary psychology says the sexual double standard dwells within our genes: men are naturally polygamous and women are naturally monogamous.

It can’t be helped.

Unfortunately, the theory harms women’s sexuality. And unnecessarily, because the theory has some problems. Read the rest of this entry

Women’s Lower Sex Drive Isn’t A Problem?

headacheResearch consistently shows that women have a lower sex drive than men.

But maybe it’s not a problem?

While 44% of US women report sexual problems, most commonly low desire, only 12% are bothered by it.

If you don’t care, what’s the problem? Read the rest of this entry

Women Crave Sex Less Than Men?

Do women crave sex less than men?

Do women crave sex less than men?

Is it sexist to say that women crave sex less than men?

Some think so. Like this woman:

Why do people still believe this crap? It makes you feel abnormal if you are a woman with a high sex drive or a man with a lower one.

She’s got a point: some women do have a higher sex drive than some men.

But crunch the numbers and men are generally more interested: Read the rest of this entry

A World Before Male Dominance

Early, more egalitarian societies had goddesses

Early, more egalitarian societies had goddesses

Think the world has always been male-dominated? It hasn’t.

The earliest societies worshiped the great mother goddess. In some early Middle Eastern cultures women’s graves were central and richly decorated. New Guinea’s Arapesh and Tchambuli, ancient Crete, the !Kung of Africa and many American Indian tribes all tell us that patriarchy is not inevitable.

Take, for instance, the Iroquois of North America. We know of them from the French Jesuit missionaries who arrived in the 17th and 18th centuries, along with some later observers.  Read the rest of this entry
